Situations

Start from where you are.

Nobody wakes up wanting a financial plan. They wake up inside a situation: a sale closed, a market dropped, a life they want that the spreadsheet has not approved yet. Pick yours. Each page gives you the numbers to run for free, the fear underneath it and the system that answers it, and what it would look like to work on it together.

I just sold my business.
The wire cleared, the number on the screen is bigger than anything you have ever managed, and suddenly everyone has a plan for it. You do not need a plan this week. You need to not break anything.
Could I stop working?
You have run the numbers in your head a hundred times and never on paper. Part of you suspects the answer is yes, and that is the part that scares you.
We want to live differently.
Sell the house, live out of an RV, move abroad, homeschool the kids, run the business from wherever the wifi works. You have said it out loud to a few people, and the pauses told you what they think.
The market is scaring me.
It is Monday, the screen is red, and every part of you wants to sell. Or you already sold and now you cannot make yourself get back in. Either way, your cortisol is doing the thinking, and it is a terrible portfolio manager.
My business is my whole net worth.
Everything you have is in one engine, and the engine is the thing you wake up worrying about. Your accountant has explained the tangle twice. Nobody has tied the taxes, the estate, and the exit together into one plan.
Who do I trust with my money?
Maybe you were burned once. Maybe you have never let anyone near it, including me. Good. Here is the test I publish for anything with an incentive behind it, and I run it on my own firm first.
Half my net worth is one stock.
RSUs that kept vesting, options you never exercised, or one winner you held so long it became the portfolio. You know you should trim it. You also know what the stock did last year, and so does everyone at work.

None of these is yours?

The thirteen calculators and the twenty-one systems cover more ground than seven pages can. Or just tell me the situation.
